Questions this episode answers

Why does +2 Vehicle Weapons matter so much for Goliaths against Carriers?

Goliath missiles deal explosive damage, only half to small units such as Interceptors, which have 40 HP and 40 shields. Reaching +2 Vehicle Weapons cuts the shots needed to kill an Interceptor from 6 to 5, which clears Interceptors much faster in a fight.

What happens to Interceptors when a Carrier is Recalled by an Arbiter?

Interceptors that are out fighting are not teleported with their Carrier; they fly slowly back across the map to it. Press Stop to bring them inside before you Recall.

When does an Interceptor return to its Carrier to recharge?

Only after it has taken more than 30 damage to its shields. With 30 or less it keeps fighting, so Goliaths focusing fire can finish it before it gets a chance to recharge.

Full summary

Episode 16 is a detailed guide to Protoss versus Terran, focused on the mechanics, maths and tactics of Carriers against Goliaths. It is for intermediate and competitive players who want to understand the investment a Carrier fleet takes and the best ways to beat one.

Grast starts with his own game on Blue Storm against the former Bulgarian national team player Splendour (Terran): early Zealot pressure to delay the Barracks, then a move to Carriers. The core of the episode is a tutorial video by the American Terran Nyoken. It explains the damage thresholds of Interceptors, which only go back into the Carrier to recharge after taking more than 30 shield damage, and why +2 Vehicle Weapons is a turning point for Goliaths: it cuts the shots needed to kill an Interceptor from 6 to 5.

In the second half Grast looks at a game on Circuit Breaker where Wraiths pick off isolated Carriers, and ends with a 38-minute Korean game on Blue Storm with eight Carriers, Arbiter Recalls and Psionic Storms on Goliaths.
